Thousands of fish were floating, dead, on the seashore and rotting on the beach.

On the drive back, I passed signs for Joshua Tree, which I've always wondered about and wanted to see. So I made a detour and spent some time in the brutally hot, but majestic Mojave desert.
If you're looking for a cheap way to die... (indeed, climbing all over these steep rocks in my city shoes was probably asking for a broken neck)
